It so happens that outside of the time I spend trying to help solve the current global financial crisis, I spend a great deal of my time searching for a certain amount of “enlightenment.” As it so happens, recently (in the past day or two) I think I crossed a hurdle. And in so doing, it made me curious to look up the definitions of a few “words” that I have been giving consideration. Now I would like to share with you my findings:

Word = a unit of language, consisting of one or more spoken sound or written representations, that functions as a principal carrier of meaning, is separated from other such units in writing and speech, is composed of one or more morphemes with relative freedom to enter into syntactic constructions, and is either the smallest unit susceptible of independent use or consists of two or three units combined under certain linking conditions, as with the loss of primary accent which distinguishes black’bird from black’ bird’.

I’m not kidding that is the First full definition for word in my college dictionary!

Now think on these definitions:

2) Morpheme = any of the minimal grammatical units of language that cannot be divided into smaller independent grammatical parts.

3) Meaning = that which is intended to be, or actually is, expressed or indicated; signification; import.

And finally, the word that started my initial search.

4) Thought = the product of mental activity (consciousness, my word for mental activity)–typically associated with the mind.

I kind of find the last addition to be quite funny–that is, that thought is typically associated with the mind. It makes me wonder what other places the definition writers associated with thought other than the mind.

Oh well. Have a good one.

Globalnomics is a fully integrated philosophical and scientific discipline that is based upon global rather than nationalistic perspectives.Whereas, the foundation of Globalnomics is based upon a clearly defined, commonly accepted, core set of world principals, the building blocks that shape the discipline come from the latest concepts and theories from the science of economics.

The core foundation of Globalnomics is based upon the following principals:

Do No Harm;

Love Is The Highest Knowledge;

The Ethic of Reciprocity;

All Human Beings Are Created Equal;

Freedom Is Preferable over Subjugation;

An Individual’s Right to Pursue Happiness;

The Protection and Wise Use of Global Resources; and

Exponential Reality.

The economic building blocks that shape Globalnomics are:

Global Pareto Optimums;

Friendly Competition;
– Perfect Competition over Monopolistic Control;

Investment Strategy Over
– Debt Strategy Over
– Rape/Pillage Strategy;

Increasing Gross Global Product per Capita Through Productivity Enhancements
– While Narrowing Gap Between Highs and Lows;

Rewarding Positive Creativity; and

A Single Monetary Unit of Currency.

Military war between national entities does not fit within the framework of Globalnomics. Instead Globanomic Wars are fought on the following fronts:

War on Hunger;

War on Poverty;

War on Disease Control;

War on Prejudicial Hatred; and

War on the Misuse of Global Resources.

The basic theory and concept behind Globalnomics can be understood better by reading Horatio Culver’s speech which was given in 2006 and recounted in my short story called The Love of Economics (The Economics of Love) which is provided in the short story section of this website.

Drawing conceptually from Franklin Merrell-Wolff’s Experience and Philosophy and somewhat from Wilber’s wave theory of consciousness, I have developed my own simplified view and structure for the different levels of consciousness that we as human beings experience. My simplified structure consists of the following Five Dimensions:

The First Dimension is what I have come to call the “I” Dimension of consciousness. In this dimension consciousness is raised to the level that one can acknowledge one’s own Existence. Descarte’s famous “I think, therefore I am” statement falls within this First Dimension, but other than a first “Awakening” of an “I”, there is nothing else here to conceive. At this level of consciousness, without expanding consciousness into higher dimensions, one could possibly wrongfully believe that he or she is God Supreme.

The Second Dimension is what I have come to call the “You” Dimension of consciousness. In this dimension one becomes aware that there “exists” similar entities to oneself, or in other words, one becomes aware that he or she is not alone and not one of a kind and thus must not be God Supreme. This Second Dimension raises consciousness to a level where one can group oneself into a category called, for example, human beings or homo sapiens and can begin to develop concepts such as the Golden Rule and the Ethic of Reciprocity.

The Third Dimension is what I have come to call the “Other” or “Non-You” Dimension of consciousness. In this dimension one becomes aware through the senses that entities or things different from oneself (animate or inanimate) exist. In this dimension consciousness is raised even further to acknowledge the existence of everything other than another “you”. In this dimension consciousness is raised to the level where “Environmental, Worldly, and Cosmological” issues can begin to be addressed.

The Fourth Dimension is what I have come to call the “Space-Time” Dimension of consciousness. In this dimension consciousness is raised to the level that concepts regarding the past, present, and future can be recognized and conceived. This Space-Time Dimension allows for the development of “Evolutionary” concepts, including concepts such as “Survival of the Fittest”, the “Survival of the Finest”, and that of “Exponential Reality”. Some people say that this is the consciousness level where all science takes place.

The Fifth Dimension is what I have come to call the “Pure Consciousness” Dimension of consciousness. In this dimension one’s consciousness is raised to his or her highest level, a truly “Enlightened” level of consciousness. This is not a theoretical or conceptual level of consciousness, but a “real, attainable” level of consciousness that a few “enlightened” beings (myself, not included) have in fact experienced. At this level of consciousness it is reported that one actually experiences Truth in the Absolute, God, the Tao, Suchness, the Greatest Abstract and is reported to be a very, very Blissful State of Being. Word is that this level of consciousness is only achieved through diligent hard work, simplicity (not complexity), and Grace–the freely given, unmerited favor and love of God.

God, please grant Me your Grace.

As consciousness works according to Merrill-Wolff, the First Dimension of consciousness is necessarily included as a part of the Second Dimension of consciousness when the second level of consciousness is reached. Similarly, the Second level is included as part of the Third, the Third part of the Fourth, etc., as one climbs the ladder of expanding degrees of consciousness. Each new dimension of consciousness that one achieves opens up an infinitude of new capabilities for understanding Truth. The rub is this: Like water, Truth flows only downhill. What is Truth in the Fifth Dimension will and must hold as Truth in the lower dimensions; however, a so-called “truth” developed singularly alone in a lower dimension, may not in fact be a “Truth” in a higher dimension.

Real Truth, Real Unchanging “Eternal” Truth, can only come from the Fifth Dimension or from the “Pure Consciousness” level. It is in the Fifth Dimension where Truth leads one to “Nothingness” and “Everythingness”, both of which I have labeled as the same thing and something I have called Perfection. Perfection without Love (without anything) is “Nothingness”. Perfection with Love (with something) is “Everythingness”.

Probably the three most important Truths that have been passed down to us from those who have achieved the Fifth Dimension of consciousness are the following: (1) The HighestUnderstanding is of the Eternal, Non-changing Nature of Being; (2) Extreme Love and the Highest Knowledge Are One; and (3) The Eternal, Non-Changing Nature of the “I” consciousness from the perspective of the “Pure Consciousness” consciousness is Possibility.

During the consideration that resulted in the formulation of my Pyramid of Virtues, I reviewed the thoughts and ideas of several philosophers and spiritual leaders before me. As part of that process I came across several different definitions (or explanations) offered for the various items that form my Pyramid. Now, I humbly submit my own definition (or explanation) for the virtues of my Pyramid, beginning with Love and ending appropriately with Poverty of Spirit.

Love is the greatest of all the virtues and sits at the top of my Pyramid. Real Love is not a function of the brain or lesser organs, but instead, Real Love comes from the very depths of one’s soul and is eternally internal. As Vivekanada expressed it best: Extreme Love and the Highest Knowledge Are One. In other words, Real Love is our Essence. After you and me and God, Love must be the first word defined. All other words are in some way derived from it.

Faith is the ability to let go and to Love the Divine within all of one’s power. Faith is the most important virtue after Love. It is most easily achieved through introspection and/or Awe. Faith is in constant warfare with Doubt (Faith’s ugly opposite).

Charity is Love for Others. Generally better known as the Golden Rule or Ethic of Reciprocity, Charity sits alone together with Faith on the second plateau of my Pyramid. Although Charity is an absolute necessity for the continuance (or existence) of a species, it is not a requirement for Exponential Reality. Charity is simply Good Karma.

Purity is the ability to see yourself in others and God in all (including yourself).

Fairness in Judgment is the application of Wisdom prior to carrying out Charity (the Golden Rule/Ethic of Reciprocity) with Purity. Wisdom rather than Knowledge is Judgment’s best ally. Prejudice (prejudging without a basis founded in truth) is Judgment’s worst enemy.

Friendship is the inward expression of kindness to one’s own self and the outward expression of kindness to others (reciprocated or not). Outside of Kindness, Forgiveness is one of Friendship’s best traits.

Patience is peacefulness. Although always useful, it is best applied in times of turmoil. Faith is Patience’s greatest ally.

Truthfulness is a series of ordered words put together in such a way that they pass the test of being error free on all levels of consciousness.

Strength is fortitude. Strength is the brick house in the tale of the three little pigs built on the rock referred to in the Sermon on the Mount.

Temperance is moderation under freedom’s control.

Courage is Faith in action and Strength channeled outward. Courage is what gives one the ability to pursue one’s dreams. Courage should always be deployed with a Poverty of Spirit.

Prudence is the wise application of Courage tempered. In other words, it is the wisdom to understand what one can and cannot change.

Humility is the outward display of one’s relationship to the Divine.

Poverty of Spirit is detachment. As the Meister says: Poverty of Spirit is to want nothing, to know nothing, and to have nothing. There is nothing greater than to Love with a Poverty of Spirit, and it is no coincidence that essentially the very first words we hear Jesus speak in the New Testament are the following: Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Buddha would smile in agreement.

Since posting my most recent blog, Exponential Reality, I have been making decisions as to how to proceed forward with this portion of my website. As part of that decision process, I have been going through a mixed conglomeration of notes regarding ideas for consideration for future writings (i.e., aphorisms, poems, short stories, novel scenes, etc.). Some of the looser (less detailed) of those notes I compiled into something that I have favorably come to call–Loose Ends. The first set of my Loose Ends follow below:

If It’s Not “Just You and Me and God”,
But Instead “Just You and Me”.
Then What Happens
When Either You or I Go Away?
What Happens  When
Both You and I Go Away?

If You Want to Be Like Jesus
Then Be Like Jesus,
And That Means to Love
With a Poverty of Spirit (the first beatitude).
If You Want to Be Like Buddha
Then Be Like Buddha,
And That Means to Love
With Detachment (Poverty of Spirit).

Just as a Journey of a Thousand Miles
Begins with a Single Step, Then Another,
Even the Largest Star Must Begin
With a Single Atom, Then Another.

You Should Be Where You Want to Be,
And You Are Where You Are.

Within the Essence of Perfection
Everything is Both Input and Output;
And by Definition
Everythingness is Perfection with Love.
(See Home Page poem or sutra)

Love is Greater than One
And Flow within Exponential Reality
Is Toward Ever Expanding Goodness
And Love to the Nth Power.

After the Second Coming
Will Come the Third, Fourth, Fifth, . . .
And the Nth.

One Day While Lost in Thought
I Lost a Thought
And I Wondered Where It Went.
Later, I Discovered{
There is No Such Thing as a Lost Thought.
In fact, I Discovered:
There is No Such Thing as a Thought.

Time is Relative.
There is No Time in Eternity.
Relative or Not,
Every Moment Defines God.

Regardless of What One Might Think,
Everyone is Enlightened.
(At Least to Some Degree).

There was a period in my life that I was inspired by the writings of Henry David Thoreau And although I know I risk being criticized for unoriginality, I would like to once again look back at some of the words Thoreau used that especially inspired me. Those words and my own ending comment (after my own Walden experience) follow:

“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practise resignation, unless it was quite necessary. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to live so sturdily and Spartan-like as to put to rout all that was not life, to cut a broad swath and shave close, to drive life into a corner, and reduce it to its lowest terms, and, if it proved to be mean, why then to get the whole and genuine meanness of it, and publish its meanness to the world; or if it were sublime, to know it by experience, and be able to give a true account of it in my next excursion.” (Henry David Thoreau, An American Writer of Spirit, 1854)

Life is Sublime. (Indy Boswell, An American Writer of Spirit, 2008)

Upon further review and consideration of early philosophical thought, including that of Pythagoras, Plato, Aristotle, etc., I have found it necessary to add and make a few necessary corrections to the first and second layers of my original Pyramid of Virtues. And although I hope my learning continues, I am currently under the belief that with these changes, my pyramid is forever complete. The changes and the rationale for my changes are as follows:

In the second layer of my pyramid dealing with the virtues that are both personal and interactive (i.e. concerning others) I have added one virtue (Friendship) and changed the qualities of a previously identified virtue from Non-Judgment to Fairness (Fairness in Judgment) instead.

Friendship is a necessary addition to the second layer because it allows one to be tolerant of one’s own and another person’s (friend’s) faults. Friendship opens up the power of Forgiveness, which in itself is a form of Love, and is applicable to oneself or another individual. Regarding Judgment, since virtues are applicable to one’s existence, one should work towards developing Wisdom, which if gained then fairly applied with good judgment. Ignoring what one knows is not good judgment.

In the first individual layer of my pyramid of virtues I have added Courage and Prudence. Although Strength and Poverty-of-Spirit still serve as the base cornerstones of my entire pyramid, I believe Courage and Prudence are necessary to provide a solid central foundation.

True Happiness (a goal in and of itself) can only be obtained through the proper application of wise and cautious judgment in practical matters, which is Prudence. In order not to stagnate (not necessarily a good thing), then one must have the Courage to Dream. Without Courage nothing new will be attempted. However, without the proper application of Prudence within one’s dreams, Happiness will remain elusive. In other words “grant me the Wisdom to accept the things I cannot change, the Courage to change the things that I can, and the Wisdom to know the difference.”

Considering all of the above, my new Pyramid includes fourteen Virtues and looks like the following:

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               Love

                                                                                                                                                                                                         Faith                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           Charity
